SEs do understand some javascript, but I would imagine it's no problem if we're talking abut ajax type hiding using those libraries, where it's really just minimized and/or moved out of the line of vision. Re: "Peekaboo", you could use any Javascript library (jquery or prototype, etc.) to just hide the nav, easily. The big question is: Do search engines (and robots, specifically) understand JavaScript?
