Yahoo Site Explorer… Dying?

Try and find http://www.pokeraffiliateprograms.com/forums/general-poker-affiliate-discussion/17456-new-plugin-wordpress-internal-link-building.html

(Updated with new link as Yahoo changed its results and included other links I’d gained.)

Hint: It’s not there. My Internal Link Building plugin got a wide collection of juicy links (would appreciate more sphinns so it can go to the biggest hits area, folks, please), most of which are not reflected in YSE. Look at this nice thing Markus did for me, and I don’t even know him!

That’s perhaps more of a crawling issue, though. The first post is indexed at Yahoo, however, which bears the question: why doesn’t YSE show the link?

Long story short, those are two of many links - quality links that have driven traffic - which are not being returned by YSE. At least some of them are indexed. What is going on with everybody’s standard link research tool?

Is YSE going the way of Overture? Accuracy of the functionality slowly dying off until MSN or Google replace it altogether?

  2. Thanks for sharing that Peter. I don’t know why it shows up with that query, but the traditional exploring way of researching - eg looking up a page and then seeing who links - did not show it last night when I wrote this.

There are also many other links not shown there.

  3. It’s a bit slow and inaccurate but that’s still the best backlink checking service available now…

  4. That is strange. I’ve seen some wild fluctuations in backlink counts - the problem is that Y! is really the only way to do this, so there’s no way to cross reference their numbers.

Obvious in a case like this where you know there are actually more, but what about all those cases when that’s the only thing you have to go by? Wish MSN or Goog provided an alternative.

(We’ll have to have a drink at Pubcon so you can “know me” ;)

  5. Ann, you just did a huge service to us all with that ultimate link review post at SEJ!

Markus, the tool changes constantly… sometimes even hourly. I’m going to compare with MSN and see what I come up with.

As to Pubcon, thanks for the offer but I won’t be there. Perhaps if I’m lucky SES San Jose will be on the schedule. You going?

  6. The thing has gone through periods of buggyness in the past.

You could even argue that it’s buggy in general.

  7. Yeah, I’ve been feeling Y!SE slowly grinding down these last couple of months. I agree with Ann though, it’s the best we’ve got at the moment.

Testimonials

"As someone with a strong understanding of advanced SEO techniques, I wasn't sure if an SEO consultation was something that I needed; however, I knew from Gab's articles that if I did, he was the person to go to.
Working with Gab reaffirmed that belief.
Gab did some link building work with me and also spent some time doing a phone consultation. He was the perfect sounding board for some of the big ideas that I've been planning on implementing, and he also introduced me to some concepts that I'm excited about trying. It's very obvious that Gab has a passion for SEO, and he's constantly working to not only be one of the most knowledgeable people in the industry, but also to push the limits of the field by testing new ideas.
He was a pleasure to work with, and I'd recommend him to business owners with all levels of SEO needs."
