And that means tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars in savings for a variety of companies participating in the program, for aggregate savings to SEOs in the millions of dollars!
For those who are unaware, Yahoo bought out Altavista a long time ago. With that purchase came Altavista’s paid inclusion technology.
With paid inclusion, you paid Yahoo to include a list of URLs submitted in a special format (XML if memory serves?). If you were small, you paid a flat fee, or if you were big, you paid on a cost-per-click basis for every visitor sent to your site via their search engine. It was argued that this could benefit sites that had poor architecture, the same way submitting a sitemap could be beneficial.
