Interesting post. I'd imagine more people on MyBlogLog know they have a blog, but most likely still not 100% of their users :) Personally know that I do know (thanks for opening my eyes), I don't think I'll head over to read it any time soon ;)

"As a commercial business I think that this is their biggest failure - we see no public faces of the company - they have such a big opportunity to boost their commercial success if they capitalised on their viral platform further - relying on spammy apps to spread themselves detracts from developments that FB introduce themselves."

I couldn't make the point any better myself. They've got an awesome opportunity and are exploiting it like a bunch of newbs who never did internet marketing.

Hey Gab - good to see your results came in. Just wanted to respond to Glen (congrats on the job btw)
Its not so much as people have an interest as its kind of necessary. I mean FB receives such HUGE media attention, and has been compared to Google in growth etc - we all know how popular it is.
A corporate blog such as theirs should be better presented, more user friendly and easy to promote. As a commercial business I think that this is their biggest failure - we see no public faces of the company - they have such a big opportunity to boost their commercial success if they capitalised on their viral platform further - relying on spammy apps to spread themselves detracts from developments that FB introduce themselves.

I get irate by the fact that I have to surf other websites for info on FB developments - why cant they provide the details first - since they get them first?

And I believe that their RSS subscribers would shoot up to figures in the 4 or more zero levels if they took even a few of Janes key reccomendations onboard.

hey Glenn,

Thanks for stopping by. I've been paying attention to Viper Chill and it's nice to see it's mutual.

Do people have interest in the Facebook blog? Well, considering it announces important features (like the new ads "privacy group" MoveOn.org stole attention for itself over... that was such total crap from a completely politically-oriented site trying to expand its reach and stay relevant I can't begin to say, but that's a rant for another day), it should.

And another point is the potential. Like Jane mentionsa/alludes to, they're not blogging. There's no relationship or conversation. It's press releases as blog posts. Imagine what it would be like if people got to feel Facebook was their company and Marc Zuckerberg really their "friend" the way that people do about Darren Rowse. It's more for the potential that it matters, rather than what it currently is.

You're right that a majority knowing about it wouldn't matter, but then that's only in its current incarnation (assuming they do wake up one day and improve their blog).

Great that you decided to test this out and thanks for sharing the results. Do people really have interest in the facebook blog though? Even if they did know about it, I'm not sure for the majority that it would matter...
