I really love the marketing part of SEO and believe the two will increasingly start to work together. Not “just” like now, on a conceptual level, but on a technical level where we can help marketers understand that A will do X to Z.

The reverse is true too. Some SEO recommendations are so far removed from real life; you have to be aware what the marketing and branding impact might be when your recommendations are implemented. If not, you’re creating a top ranked but dead site.

It is nice to see someone so passionate about SEO and taking a quality approach. Many technical SEO people I have known usually forget that there is also some “marketing” involved in SEO.

I thought it was a great point, and Nick Stamoulis’ linking here (plus your interest) kinda suggests that was a decent choice. It’s subjective though … an italicized emphasis coulda worked too.

I have totally missed the “Emphasis added” part. It probably should have been just a slight emphasis, but not a specifically strong one.

The part that reads “If you want to assess your own competence, imagine that the tactic you rely on most to rank is 100% devalued tomorrow. What would you do instead? What would you do different? Would you still be able to rank? If not, would you know how to figure out how to rank?” is part of my answer to Gab regarding technical SEO.

I don’t believe in formula SEO as a long term strategy. I don’t employ it myself and instead do now what I would have done different otherwise

Another awesome interview from you, Gab…and isn’t Ruud a neat guy? His comments at Cre8asite are always full of thoughtfulness and frequently some surprise bit of wisdom I’d never considered before.

I feel like I got to know Ruud better reading this, and have found more reasons to admire his truly unique approach to the web.

Yura, that wasn’t a question; it was my answer to Gab about whether you need to be very technical about this stuff or not. Gab found it a good point, I guess, so he added the emphasis.

I can’t really answer the question myself as I don’t believe in formula SEO for long term goals. So what I *would* do different — is what I *do* different *now*
