How Should I Create My “Best Of” Page?

Author: Gabriel Goldenberg, October 25, 2009

Hey guys,

After my previous great experiences going to you for advice, I thought I’d ask how I should go about creating my “Best Of” page? In particular, I’m interested in 2 things:

1) What posts belong there?

2) How should I highlight the page? I used to have a best of page in my main navigation, but it got very few clicks. I’d like to perhaps try a different approach – what would you guys suggest?

Cheers

Gab

  1. Maybe you could create an image in the sidebar that links to the page or one at the bottom of all blog posts?

You could also put the link back into the navigation but highlight it by making it yellow or something like that.

    Just my $0.02

An image at the bottom of my posts might be a good idea… I’ll put that on the whiteboard of ideas… Thanks Glen!

  2. You could make a flash banner and put it in your sidebar?

Perhaps the posts you can put in there could be the ones your readers have found helpful, really enjoyed and even the ones which you liked writing.

I really like the aspect of having readers tell me what they found helpful and/or really enjoyed. I’ve been mulling over doing this with a plugin, but I’ve decided to act on this in a more engaging way in the immediate future, partly via your prompting. Thanks again Jamie!

  3. I created my “The best of…” and put it in the main menu.
At the bottom of every post there is a link to this page and another link in sidebar.

About the posts: consider your best posts, the most relevant and complete of your blog.

    Hey Daniele,

Thanks for the tips. I had a Best of link in my main navigation, but it only got 69 clicks in a month where I had several thousand visitors…

I’ll be looking at those criteria in picking the posts.
