Oliver, have a look at what 1and1 have done to domainers. I used to have a great opinion of them, but they've made every effort to rid me of that perception. I forgot to mention also in the article that their customer service rep was an unhelpful jerk who blamed me for not getting the cancellation right, as all instructions were in the email! Yeah, except for the little bit of extra info! :P

GoDaddy seems very hit or miss. Their support is fair, and present at least. They don't try to minimize call center calls by hiding the number and throwing up 100 pages and barriers before showing it to you.

Thanks for the referral to Cari.Net, btw.

Mike, that's exactly what the point of this article is. When you provide great customer support and quickly admit and correct your mistakes, you not only protect your brand and reputation, but get people like us evangelizing it for you!

The same thing happened to me with dreamhost yesterday. How's this for interesting though: I already had enough trust built up in them that my mental response was, "Hmm..Must have been a mistake. I bet they'll fix it pretty quickly."

And I decided to wait a couple days before actually taking action in any way. And, a few hours later, there's the correction email. Love 'em.

Funnily enough, I have the same opinion of Network Solutions, but my experience with 1and1 has been stellar.

Probably because I only use it to host my son's Boy Scout Troop website. I think their sweet spot is really very basic users creating brochure sites. My wife's homeowners association site is at GoDaddy and they love it. Go figure.

I have personally had great luck with Cari.Net.

But I digress - great article, thanks!
