5ub - It's something to test, but I don't think that'll happen. People appreciate you being honest. They may hold your own stuff to a high standard next time you ask, but that's fine by me. If everyone did that we'd have a better social news site.

@ Oliver, I'd be more than happy to check out your tool. I'm focused on Sphinn and SU though, so it would need to work on those for me to use it.

Hmm, well, deciding what to/not-to vote on is certainly a personal matter. I tend to digg almost anything that is not "hey, refinance your mortgage" because I'm easy. Ok, no Ron Paul Has The Secret To The Universe posts either. But otherwise.

The real trick, in my opinion is that you need tools to help you get a useful friend list and to automate a lot of the navigation and repetitive work around, say, digging.

Lucky for me (gratuitous self promotion alert) we have a product in beta test which does all that. Drop me a line if you're interested.

Finally ... you smartened up. [Edited for gratuitous dig.]

PS: Once you reject your 'friends' vote requests... don't expect anything from them in the future even if your post is super-high quality. In social media it's not about quality... it's all too personal.

Gab, that is exactly what I meant when I wrote that "People Pleaser 2.0" you mentioned. The pressure to feel you have to vote something up when your social network friends ask. And, for me at least... not feeling I should ask for my friends to check out my posts. As a matter of fact.... normally I wait a while hoping friends will find my post instead of asking at all.

Thank you for the mention, Gab. :)
